Edusynch TOEFL Quick Review Well, I took three of the writing simulations offered by Edusynch, and they were all terrible.None of them followed the structure used by ETS. One of them was, ostensibly, a supporting type question which is a style that hasnt appeared on the TOEFL since 2005.If you are reading this, People of Edusynch, take a look at the following graphic:That is what an integrated writing question is supposed to look like. Take a look at the left-hand side. The reading always has four paragraphs. The first paragraph states the main argument of the reading. After that, there are three body paragraphs, and each one of them presents one point in support of the main argument.Now take a look at the lecture. Of course a lecture cant have paragraphs but if you were to type out a typical TOEFL integrated question you would see that it starts with an introduction, and that one at a time it specifically challenges each of the points from the reading. The lecture actually mirrors the reading so much that it c hallenges the points in the exact same order as they are presented in the reading!The three samples I bought from Edusynch didnt do this. Two of them had only three paragraphs, none of them had point-counterpoint matching structures. Can you believe that one of them had only TWO paragraphs in the reading?Guys, you are charging $12.50 a pop for these. You can do better Youve taken the test. You know these arent accurate. Basically, this happens when Google’s spiders can’t crawl a site properly, which means the website content can’t be found in search results pages. Fortunately, most problems can be resolved fairly quickly, if you know what you’re looking for. Checking Your Site for Errors: The Basics The first thing to do is simply type â€Å"site:† followed by your domain URL into the Google search bar. This will give you the approximate number of pages that are being indexed by Google. If there’s a big difference between this number and the actual number of pages on your site, you know there are probably some indexing issues. Next, log into Google Webmaster Tools and check the â€Å"Google Index† tab. You’ll then see the total number of indexed pages for your site. Obviously, if this number is not consistent with your website, or it falls at some point, something is happening which will affect your visibility in search engines, which will impact traffic to your site. Crawler Errors In the Google Webmaster Tools dashboard, take a look at your Crawler Error messages. If there are any issues, they’ll show up here. The most common error message you’ll see is a 404 HTTP Status Code warning, which simply means that whatever page the link is pointing to cannot be found. You can’t prevent every 404 error, but you can fix them. Sometimes, it’s simply a URL that has been mistyped. Here are the other most common crawler errors: Robots/txt file. To make sure you have a few inbound links, make sure your social media profiles include a link to your website URL, or if you own another website that has related content, you could include a link back to your website on there. Arthur Millers Tragic Heroes Essays Arthur Millers Tragic Heroes Paper Arthur Millers Tragic Heroes Paper During and after the Second World War, Arthur Miller, American Novelist and Playwright, wrote three of his most successful plays: All My Sons, Death of a Salesman, and A View from the Bridge. These three beautifully tragic plays, are considered by many to be the epitome of all critical analyses using as a basis; the American culture and the American Dream. He does this by using tragic heroes, who on the one hand demand our sympathy, yet on the other we despise them. Arthur Miller wrote all three of these books after the Second World War. This was the time in which McCarthyism was started; an attempt to contain all forms of communism, especially in the public eye. This resulted in many authors, playwrights and actors, including Miller, to be blacklisted, and consequently contributed to much of Millers diatribe against the Land of the free (ref). It can also be said that Millers own unfortunate life, was another of the main factors that caused him to focus on the tragedy of the common man. He himself said in an essay that he wrote in 1949: I believe that the common man is as apt a subject for tragedy in its highest sense(ref). Miller found that not nearly enough of the books of his time were about tragedies in everyday situations, that it was a topic that was considered above the common man, reserved for the tragic heroes of Shakespeare, such as Hamlet and Macbeth. He explains that the society in which he lived had taken a turn towards the psychological, sociological view of life(example). First Section: All My Sons All My Sons, Arthur Millers first commercially successful play, opened at the Coronet Theatre in New York on January 29, 1947. It ran for 328 performances and garnered important critical acclaim for the dramatist, winning the prestigious New York Drama Critics Circle Award. The general plot consists of the trials and tribulations that a small suburban family endures, after losing a son in the Second World War. There are 5 main characters in the play: Joe, Kate and Chris Keller, and Ann and George Deever. The play opens with the news that during a terrible storm the previous night, an apple tree that was a memorial to the loss of the Kellers first born son, Larry, was split in half. This symbolic event coincides with the arrival of their late sons fianci e Ann, who has been in correspondence with their other son Chris. One thing that must be mentioned is that Kate Keller, still believes that Larry is alive, and has been delayed in his voyage home. As the play progresses, the reader learns two key facts that contribute to our general understanding of the community as a whole, but also about the individual characters. The first thing we learn, is that Joe Keller and his former associate were summoned before a court, for making faulty cylinder heads, that were used in American war planes. They were charged for manslaughter of twenty-one pilots. Joe was released as he appealed, saying that it was Steves, and not his order to continue producing faulty parts. This however was untrue, as it was actually Joe, when phoned by Steve, who gave the order. The second key fact that we learn, is that Ann and Chris are in love, and that Chris has brought her to the mid-west to propose to her, and to announce the news to his parents. From here the play divides into two main narrative strands: the first being Chris and Anns attempt to convince Kate that Larry is dead, so that they can get married. The second narrative strand consists of the attempt by George and later Chris, to find out what really happened at Joes factory in the autumn of 1943.

They cover what happens next and what specific information you need to include.There are a number of ways you can create your outline; using sticky notes, writing it in bullet points, or even using one thats attached to a writing software.How can you not know what to write next if you already have an outline telling you exactly that?Many of us are stuck and blocked simply because we’re not sure what we should be writing next. Your imagination is at a standstill. Meaning, it may take a few attempts before finding the method that works best for you.As an example, whenever I feel stuck or blocked when writing, I open my Pinterest board dedicated to my book and often find this helps.Heres an example of what a board for your book may look like in order for you to beat writers block.A Pinterest board like this really just serves to bring your book to re ality. When you see what it could look like in the minds of others, it helps you get back on the writing train.Anything that rouses your excitement to write again tramples that pesky writer’s block.Writer’s Block Action Step:Get on Pinterest or just Google and look up images that are reminiscent of your book, theme, or story. Compile a folder or board of these and notice the details that make them related to your book.#7 Put Your Phone Away!Are you really experiencing writer’s block or is that â€Å"block† in the shape of your phone?A lot of us love to use the excuse of â€Å"writer’s block† in order to justify spending far too much time perusing our social feeds.While there’s nothing wrong with wanting to catch up with friends and stay in the know, sometimes it can drag you away from achieving the goal of writing your book.What you need may not be a cure for writer’s block at all, but something completely different: self-cont rol.There are even apps for this now! Going to your phone every now and then can be a bad habit, but apps like Freedom help you stay on track.Freedom works by blocking your ability to access different websites or apps on your phone. This is what it looks like when you attempt to go online or open an app that you have disabled through Freedom:If you struggle to focus on the task of writing and you somehow always find your phone open to a mind-sucking app, it’s a good idea to switch your phone to silent and shove it aside for the remainder of your writing time.This alone might be enough to get rid of what’s really blocking your stream of words.Writer’s Block Action Step: Put your phone in a completely different room and on silent. This will stop you from opening your phone just to scroll and will block any other messages from distracting you until you’re done writing.#8 Reread Your WritingAs mentioned above, getting into a rhythm is essential for keeping w riter’s block at bay. When you suddenly can’t come up with the right words to describe what’s going on in your mind, it could be because you’ve lost momentum.Taking some time to reread your previous writing can help by putting you in the same frame of mind you were in the last time you had to stop writing.This will catapult your brain back into the right place so you can make progress and write easily again.Writer’s Block Action Step:Head back to the beginning of your current chapter (or the beginning of the previous one if you’re just starting a new one) and just read. Allow your mind to get lost in your own words. You can go further back to read if needed.#9 Stop Comparing Your Writingâ€Å"Comparison is the thief of joy.†Theodore Roosevelt knew as much and we’d wager to bet it also steals any progress you could be making. The more you worry about how your writing compares to someone else’s (who usually has much more experience than you), the harder it will be to write anything.That’s where writer’s block comes from in this instance.You’ll find fault with every word and every sentence even though your work is fantastic the way it is.Remember that nobody can write the story you are. Your voice and perspective are what makes your book unique in the first place. Changing this will only pull you further away from your identity as a writer.And most importantly, comparing your writing to someone else’s isn’t productive or helpful for anyone.Writer’s Block Action Step:Write down 10 things you love about your writing. Get specific and mention why you love your dialogue or why your theme is so unique and special. Recognize your own strengths and then say them out loud to yourself.#10 Think of the Big PictureWriting and publishing a book can be a long, hard process. Sure, the first week is exciting and you want to write all the words but that motivation probably won’t last through the entire process because it is work, after all.You’ll have rough days including moments when writer’s block takes hold. What’ll get you through them the easiest is taking a step back and thinking about the big picture.Ask yourself some of these questions to get rid of writers block:Why did you want to write this story?How will it benefit you?How will it benefit others?What message do you hope others receive?What value does this hold in your life?Pushing yourself to view your writing in terms of the end goal will not only motivate you to get started and put some words down, but it’ll also help remind you of your true purpose for telling this story.Writer’s Block Action Step:Write down the answers to the questions above in detail.
